In Round 1 funding of the Vision for Werribee Plains FMBG received a grant of $20,900 (inc GST) for the restoration of Ryans Creek within the Melton Botanic Garden.
FMBG plants are ordered from Greybox & Grassland Indigeneous Nursery (Newport Lakes) and Western Plains Flora (Wildwood). These are the only nursuries in the region able to supply plants from seed sources from or close to Melton. This is to ensure we have indigenous plants approrpiate for area. Ryans Creek is a Volcanic Grassy Creekline EVC. On Thursday 9th July we had our first Project Control Group meeting with Max Coster, Manager and Vivian Amenta, Project Officer Vision for Werribee Plains, Department of Sustainability and Environment, and Rodney Thomas, MSC. Also attending was Sam Bayley, Catchment Co-ordinator from Melbourne Water and Sasha Roos of the Waterwatch team. They were able to view the plantings we have undertaken with the Melbourne Water grant we received earlier this year. FMBG members and volunteers commenced planting in August 2009. Below is a list of plants that have been planted in the rehabilitation area of Ryans Creek in 2009.
Information about the Vision for Werribee Plains can be found at the Our Future Our water website. This project was successfully completed on 31st July 2010 with thanks to everyone involved - FMBG volunteers, Challis Environmentals, Max Coster (DSE), Vivien Amenta (DSE), Brett Whitfield (DSE), Rodney Thomas (MSC), Brett Luxford (MSC) and Tony Herwerth (MSC.
